A UPSM education provides students with a strong academic background across the spectrum of Arts and Humanities disciplines. This includes history, literature, the language arts, philosophy, and the visual and performing arts.  The curriculum emphasizes:

  • A robust English program including Great Books, research methods, written and oral communications;
  • International travel to promote cultural competence — study abroad required for graduation;
  • Written and spoken fluency in Spanish or Chinese;
  • A sophisticated understanding and appreciation of the fine arts;
  • The arts as a form of communication as well as an expression of historical and cultural traditions;
  • High-quality fine arts experiences through partnerships with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO), the Scarab Club, Mosaic Youth Theatre and local artists and performers.
