Higher standards

"What I like about UPSM is that each and every instructor cares about the children - and it shows. My daughter is definitely a reflection of the energy around her. I absolutely love the school."
Chiketa Smith

"Michigan's future, as well as America's, rests on our ability to produce a globally-competitive generation of scientists and engineers. UPSM High School will set a new standard for science, math, and technology education in Southeast Michigan."
Dr. James Duderstadt
President Emeritus and Professor of Science and Engineering at the University of Michigan.

There are many ways to support UPSM school and student activities.

Donate: Join the 90/90 Club

Even in the best of times, Michigan invests less in charter schools than it does in tradtional public schools. Currently charter schools receive only about $7,200 per student. Charter schools tend to do more with less because we have lower central office and administrative costs; in other words, we put our money into lower class sizes (18 students per class) and student-focused expenditures.

Still, state funding will not fully fund UPSM’s enriched curriculum. Every year, we come together as a community to raise the money required to preserve our school’s offerings, small size and unique culture.

The 90/90 Club is one way to support UPSM Schools. 90/90 Club contributions are earmarked for:

  • Technology—to ensure that UPSM students have access to the necessary tools for learning;
  • Arts programs –to ensure that UPSM students have a rich and well rounded education;
  • Study Abroad—to ensure that UPSM students develop the cultural competence necessary to compete in a global marketplace;
  • College scholarships–to ensure that money is not an obstacle for ANY UPSM student to attend college.

This year, as we face devastating and unparalleled cuts to public education, we must rely even more heavily on our community to help raise funds. Please consider giving of gift of ANY size to UPSM. Those who give at least $90 a month will be part of the 90/90 Club and will be honored and given special benefits and opportunities to interact with students, staff and fellow donors.

Your tax-deductible donation is essential to the school’s continuing success.

Volunteer

UPSM is proud to work side-by-side with dozens of parents and other volunteers in a variety of capacities. Our volunteers provide on-site administrative assistance, coordinate special events, field trips, clubs and

fundraisers. They ensure a positive school culture by offering traffic and hallway patrols before, after and during school. UPSM is also developing a corps of volunteer mentors and job shadow/internship hosts.

If you’d like to get involved, please contact Cynthia Moon at 313-832-8400 or cmoon@uprepsm.com.
