Since the first University Prep Academy school opened its doors in 2000 in the basement of a church on Medbury, these learning communities have consistently produced outstanding results. Over 95% of UPA students graduate annually; and 91% go on to College.
The UPA system now includes over 1,600 students at the following locations:

UPSM is the second charter school district founded by Doug Ross. These district schools place a strategic focus on preparing students for the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) careers of the global economy. Locations include:
University Prep Math & Science Middle School (grades 6-8)
University Prep Math & Science High School (opened in fall 2010 on Detroit’s riverfront, grades 9-12)
Ross served as Assistant Secretary of Labor for Employment and Training at the U.S. Department of Labor, Director of the Michigan Department of Commerce and was a member of the Michigan Senate. His private sector experience includes serving as President of Michigan Future, Inc., an economic development organization.
Ross is a graduate of the University of Michigan and received his M.P.A. from Princeton University.
